PIPC 2025: Collaboration and Innovation Shape the Future of Payments
The 6th PASA International Payments Conference (PIPC 2025) concluded after two days of engaging discussions, innovation, and collaboration among more than 780 delegates and 70 local and international speakers – all focused on shaping the future of South Africa’s payments ecosystem.
Hosted by the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA), the conference explored key themes including digital transformation, regulatory reform, financial inclusion, cybersecurity, and the role of AI in securing and advancing payment systems. Delegates also reflected on the upcoming changes to the National Payment System announced by the South African Reserve Bank.
PASA CEO Ghita Erling emphasised the sector’s shared responsibility and spirit of cooperation:
“PIPC 2025 has been a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when curiosity meets purpose, and when collaboration takes centre stage.”
International thought leaders, including Dr Leo Lipis (Germany), Andy White (Australia), Dr Kimmo Soramäki (UK), Wiza Jalakasi (Africa), and Dewald Nolte (USA), shared insights on innovation, cross-border collaboration, and regulatory evolution.
Key outcomes highlighted the importance of collaboration, inclusion, transparency, resilience, and innovation – with a strong call for the industry to move beyond legacy systems and embrace co-creation.
Erling concluded:
“The national payments system is changing rapidly, and collaboration will determine how effectively we shape that change. Together, we can ensure that every South African can make a digital payment – anywhere, anytime.”
PASA remains committed to supporting the resilience, interoperability, and security of South Africa’s payments system.
