INDUSTRY AWARDS OVERVIEW
The annual PASA Industry Awards recognises, honours and celebrates the contributions made by PASA Members to the South African payments industry.
The nomination process is internal to PASA where members of the payments community are called on to nominate their peers for their outstanding contributions to payments. Nominations are reviewed and vetted by the PASA Executive Committee and key PASA Management Committee members who are involved in industry projects or initiatives.
NOMINATION RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Only projects and initiatives that were delivered in full or with major milestones/deliverables that were fully completed between September 2024 – August 2025 are eligible for nomination.
- To nominate multiple candidates or nominate for multiple categories, the nominator must complete multiple nomination forms, as only one candidate and category per nomination form is allowed.
- PASA Committees and Structures receive a link to the nomination website in August of the relevant year.
- Nominations must be aligned to payments industry work.
- Only PASA industry projects/work are eligible for nomination. No other internal organisation projects may be nominated.
- PASA employees may be nominated by the industry for individual and team awards.
- PASA employees may not nominate fellow employees for awards except for retirement-related awards.
- People inside the nominator’s own organisation may be nominated as long as the nomination is relevant to PASA industry projects/work.
- People from outside the nominator’s own organisation may be nominated as long as the nomination is relevant to PASA industry projects/work.
- Individuals/teams may not be nominated for the same deliverable(s) as the previous nomination period. However, individuals/teams may be nominated for the same category as a previous nomination period, provided the reason stated is different from the previous year’s nominations.
- Individuals are eligible for nominations in both the individual and team award categories.
- The same individual may not be awarded both the Leadership and Excellence awards.
- PASA executive team members are not eligible for consideration except for the Retirement Service Award in their year of retirement.
- PASA Councillors are not eligible for consideration except for retirement, lifetime and project team awards.
- For the panel reviewing nominations, it is crucial that nomination motivations are comprehensive and align with the category description to ensure the nomination is accepted.
CATEGORIES
There are six categories in which the industry may nominate deserving individuals and/or teams who deserve to be recognised and honoured.
Rising Star Award
The Rising Star Award acknowledges individuals with less than five years’ experience in the payments industry who have made remarkable contributions through their involvement in PASA structures or projects during September 2024 – August 2025. They consistently show a strong commitment to learning, contributing, and delivering for the benefit of South Africa’s payments industry. These individuals are rising stars and are considered future leaders of this industry.
Excellence Award
The Excellence Award honours individuals who have shown outstanding performance and delivery in PASA structures or projects during September 2024 – August 2025. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional knowledge of payments, thought leadership, and effective delivery within their respective PASA endeavours.
Leadership Award
The Leadership Award acknowledges individuals who offered guidance, steer, and thought leadership in PASA structures or projects during September 2024 – August 2025. Nominees are recognised as leaders and role models who shared exceptional qualities with the industry.
Anchor Award
The Anchor Award celebrates individuals who have shown outstanding dedication to the payments industry for over ten years. It acknowledges their exceptional delivery, leadership, and service to South Africa’s payments industry.
Innovation and Excellence Team Award
The Innovation and Excellence Team Award honours PASA structures or projects that have introduced forward-thinking and innovative products, solutions, and processes in the payments industry during September 2024 – August 2025. The team members exhibited excellence in delivery, mastery of their subjects, diligent execution, and resilience in driving projects that will have a lasting impact on South Africa’s payments industry.
Retirement Service Award
The Retirement Service Award acknowledges retired or retiring individuals for their contribution and service to the South African payments industry. Those who are retiring during September 2024 – August 2025 are eligible for this award.
INDUSTRY AWARDS CEREMONY
PASA will once again be “celebrating our brightest stars in the payments galaxy” at the 2025 Industry Awards. The event will shine a spotlight on the outstanding talent and dedication shaping the payments industry this year. We look forward to welcoming attendees and supporters for an unforgettable evening of recognition and celebration.
